OB 4x4
Who is Luke
Luke (Affectionally known as Chappy among other things) was born and raised in Queensland. Married for over 35 Years, His wife “Shorty” has spent many adventures by his side. He also owns his own business, a qualified tradie and former Australian Representative as a player and a Head Coach.
Coming from a large family, he grew up camping, fishing and living in some out of the way places. His first 4×4 was a Datsun 720 (Bet you most won’t recognise this vehicle) and can fondly remember driving through chest deep water and doing the Leisha track in 2wd ( Cause someone forgot to lock the hubs in!) Over the years he has owned many 4×4’s including the aforementioned 720, couple of hilux’s, 60 Series &100 Series Cruisers, Triton, Colorado and Rodeo culminating in his current Drive – A 200 Series Cruiser that is modified to build an awesome touring offroad unit. More about this vehicle in a separate story on the build.
Having travelled extensively for work, sport and pleasure, he has built up a world of knowledge but still prefers to holiday at home and explore this great country we call Australia.
The concept behind OB 4×4 is for people who enjoy the great Australian outdoors but don’t take things too seriously and want to have some fun doing it. Life is way too short to not enjoy it.
Who is Dan
Dan has been into off-roading, camping and exploring the areas less explored since he was a kid.
As a child he used to go 4×4’ing with his family in a Canary Yellow mid 1970’s model SJ20 Suzuki Jimny.
His family then purchased a brand new 1983 Third Generation Nissan Patrol LWB 5 door model. This was used to explore a lot of his home state.
While living out near the desert areas of Australia, Dan used the farms G60 Patrol or even at times a Mini Moke (yes, a two wheel drive 4cyl Mini Moke – Can’t get bogged if you’re airborne!) to go explore where ever he felt like going, sleeping under the stars on just a piece of canvas with some blankets. With his drinking water held in canvas water bottles mounted on the bull bar.
As Dan grew and moved around the country, he kept exploring various parts of Australia in all manner of vehicles. He could often be seen in a 60series Landcruiser wagon escaping the rat race or even on a motorbike and camping with that… Yup, if it had 2 or 4 wheels, Dan has taken it to various part of Aus and lived off/out of it.
Dan has spelt a lot of time traversing Australia, and he also spent time off-roading in a couple of other countries for work purposes.
Nowadays Dan can be seen in his 2016 Isuzu Dmax Dual cab, that he has owned since new. It has gone through 2 different fit outs and setups; however, it is now being built up to be the vehicle that Dan does the Big Lap of Aus in, starting in 2023.
